"ERIC" -a converted ambulance - will be visiting Ryde at the beginning of October as part of a new project for teenagers.

The project brings together a partnership between four Island agencies - Health Promotion, Community Adult Mental Health, Youth Service and the Youth Offending Team - in a combined effort to help teenagers with risk taking behaviour.

ERIC (Educational Resource Information Centre) has proved popular with teenagers and provides a quiet area for professionals to chat with the youngsters. There is also a TV and a wide selection of equipment and literature to help teenagers with their specific concerns.

Each evening, commencing on Thursday, 28 September, between 8.00 and 11.00 pm, ERIC will be parked at the back of LA Bowl and will be manned by a Youth Worker and a qualified nurse. A further two Youth Workers will meet with teenagers on the streets.

Kim Brown, of the Child and Adolescent Health Team, said "This exciting new project brings together specialist groups of professionals to work with and for young people, reaching out to them on their terms and in their environment"
