Hands across the globe

The “Clean Gang” from St Mary’s Hospital are reaching out to the Island’s schools to encourage them to wash their hands and help prevent infection. The Clean Gang – which comprises staff from the Infection Control Team, together with School Nurses, will be visiting Island schools and discussing with the pupils how the simple procedure of hand washing can prevent infection. Every Primary School will receive posters and information for parents and Middle School children will be challenged to take part in a colouring competition. This initiative forms part of the National Infection Control Week, which begins on 16 October. The Infection Control Team are also staging a “Life on your Hands” event for health staff on Thursday, 19 October in the Conference Room at St Mary’s Hospital. Staff are invited to visit the displays, take part in a quiz and try the product samples – there will also be a hidden footprint to find.
