Life Saving at Schools
|
Island school children will be learning vital life-saving skills thanks to a new first aid handbook which is being issued by the Island’s ambulance service and health promotion service. In addition to the books, children will also have the opportunity to learn some basic life saving skills in training sessions led by Island paramedics. The handbooks will be handed out to every 7 and 10 year old. The First Aid Handbook is packed with information on how bodies work and what to do in an emergency. The handbook contains exercises designed to make the learning both fun and stimulating. The project has been paid for by the Children’s Fund and the handbook produced by The Access Partnership in a joint venture by the Isle of Wight Healthcare Trust and Primary Care Trust. The first handbooks will be presented to children at Nodehill Middle School at a special assembly on Tuesday 5 November at 1.40. The assembly will be led by headmaster, David Morris, who will be joined by Marj Ringer, Injury Prevention Co-ordinator, Paul Cassford, Acting Ambulance Training Manager, and Simon Dear, Project Manager, from the Childrens Fund.
