St Mary’s Hospital is one of the best performing hospitals in the country according to the patient survey results which have been published by the Commission for Health Improvement (CHI). Patients were surveyed in accident and emergency and their overall impression of the care they received put the Trust in CHI’s “best performing 20% of trusts” category. In outpatients 86% of patients surveyed felt that they had enough time to discuss their problem with the doctor – 89% felt that the doctor listened to what they had to say. 95% felt they were treated with respect and dignity. The overall rating by the patients for the care they received was 82%. 92% of patients in accident and emergency felt they were given enough privacy when being examined or treated – 91% responded that they were treated with respect and dignity. The overall rating for the care received in this department was 81%. Graham Elderfield, Chief Executive said “We knew that our patients had rated us highly in this survey, what we did not know was how this compared with other trusts across the country. It is extremely rewarding to know that we are rated in the top 20% in the country”.
