A & E goes to the IW Rock Festival
|
Doctors, nurses, paramedics, ambulance staff and first aiders will all be on site at the Nokia Isle of Wight Festival this weekend. The mobile A & E units will be fully staffed and ready to offer medical treatment on site rather than expecting people to travel to St Mary’s Hospital A & E for treatment. There will be three mobile units, together with the Jumbulance (which will be a minor injuries treatment centre), at the front of the festival site, either side of the stage. Paramedics and first aiders will be positioned throughout the site. A further unit will be in place on the campsite overnight, manned by GP’s and Paramedics. At last year’s festival approximately 200 people received treatment from the mobile A & E unit and first aiders – the most common problems being related to dehydration, alcohol or allergy/asthma. Graham Elderfield, Trust Chief Executive said “We are pleased to be supporting the IW Rock Festival in this way. Having the staff on site means that people can be treated there and then without disrupting the normal A & E service at St Mary’s”.
