The Medina Centre is celebrating its 40th
Anniversary this month and staff are inviting all past
and present service users and friends to join them in
their celebrations.
On the 19th September the Medina Centre is
hosting a number of events including a coffee morning
with a performance from the Medina Beats, the
Centre’s in house music group, a BBQ lunch and
cakes provided by their League of Friends and to conclude
an Anniversary Party in the evening with live music from
the very popular Mechanix, well known at the centre for
their lively performances.
The Medina Centre was opened in September 1968,
initially as an enterprise to provide both training and
work for adults with a learning disability. 40 years on
the Centre has developed into a facility that promotes
social inclusion and focuses on individuals’
abilities. It encourages independence and offers
activities such as cooking, communication, French,
poetry, swimming, yoga, aerobics, art and walking.
Activities such as gardening and woodwork are also very
popular and give service users the opportunity to develop
new skills.
Samantha Whittingham, Team Leader at the Medina
Centre said, "I am really excited about the celebrations,
a lot of the service users are looking forward to it as
well, it should be an enjoyable day. Staff are working
exceptionally hard too and are giving up their time to
help, I just hope the weather stays nice for the
BBQ."
If you are a past service user/friend and would
like to attend the celebrations, please contact Samantha
Whittingham on 523090.
