New Exhibition Set To Open At St. Mary’s Hospital An Exhibition of Paintings Zara Linington Inspired by Automatic Drawing Full Circle Exhibition Space, St. Mary’s, Isle of Wight -February to April 2012 Zara Linington is largely a self-taught artist living on the Isle of Wight for whom making paintings and artworks has become a prominent focus of her life with her deciding to set up her own business as an artist. Zara exhibits regularly at events and venues around the Isle of Wight. This group of new paintings at the ‘Full Circle’ exhibition space at St. Mary’s Hospital represents a steady discovery over the past few years of a range of images & designs that have her own distinctive style & character. Zara says about her paintings: “During part-time art classes at college I tried out many different media and techniques. I also embarked on an Art GCSE course. This informed my work, encouraging me to experiment and to study various artists, including Georgia O’Keefe, adapting ideas into my own designs. I bought a spirograph, which I also incorporated into my patterns, adding, twisting and subtracting sections to create individual details for my work. I started automatic drawing, dreaming up patterns, with which I filled the pages of my sketch book – busy, colourful or black & white drawings. I had these transferred onto larger canvasses and then repainted most of them, mainly with acrylic. This process took about 10 years resulting in the canvasses here today.” Zara is donating 25% of all sales from this exhibition to the work of the Children’s Ward and Mental Health department at St. Mary’s. If you are interested in making a purchase please contact: Guy Eades, healingarts@iow.nhs.uk or 01983-534253. Guy Eades, Healing Arts Director for the NHS on the Isle of Wight says: “The therapeutic benefits of a thriving arts programme and ensuring that the environment in which care is provided is right contributes positively to the care of patients and their family and friends. The NHS on the Isle of Wight has a long history of promoting the arts as part of the therapeutic environment in which care is provided and this exhibition at the Full Circle Exhibition Space is another example of how we improve the care experience at St. Mary’s Hospital.
