Flu

Don't Underestimate Flu - Get vaccinated if you are in an 'at risk' group

Do you or your child have a chronic condition:

  • a heart problem?
  • a chest complaint or breathing difficulties including, asthma, bronchitis, emphysema?
  • diabetes?
  • a kidney disease?
  • lowered immunity due to disease or treatment (such as steroid medication or cancer treatment)?
  • a liver disease?
  • a neurological condition e.g. multiple sclerosis (MS) or cerebral palsy?
  • a problem with, or removal of, your spleen e.g. sickle cell disease?
  • or are you pregnant or have had a stroke or a transient ischaemic attack (TIA)?

If you answered Yes to any of the above and have not already had a seasonal flu vaccination you should contact your GP or one of the 17 participating Island pharmacies (patients over 13 years of age) to get your free flu vaccination.  

Parents of children under 13 with chronic conditions or adults with suppressed immune systems can also telephone 01983-552064 between 09:30 and 16:30 to make an appointment.

Self Care

Self Care includes the actions people take every day in order to stay fit and maintain good physical and mental health, meet their social and psychological needs, prevents illness or accidents, and care more effectively for minor ailments and long term conditions.

People living with a long term condition can benefit enormously from being supported to self care. They can live longer, suffer less pain, anxiety, depression and fatigue, have a better quality of life and be more active and independent.
