Working for NHS Isle of Wight
NHS Isle of Wight is the sole healthcare provider on the island. We offer all aspects of acute (hospital) and community/primary care, including mental health as well as providing a breadth of clinical experience not always available in the larger, more specialist centres on the mainland. The Environment
In addition it is worth remembering that the Island is packed with places of interest for the visitor or resident. There are castles and historic houses, ranging from Quarr Abbey founded in 1132 to Queen Victoria's country retreat, Osborne House, built during her reign in the mid 1800's. The Islands most famous pastime is sailing and there are many regattas, carnivals and pageants with nautical themes throughout the year. But if messing about on the water isn't for you, there are many other sporting opportunities, from golf to riding, flying to walking available for you to try.
Training and Development
We have a commitment to personal development with an active Training and Development department, with strong links with Southampton and Bournemouth Universities
Facilities and Social Activities
A year long programme of events, celebrating success is held at the trust, with highlights including the Annual Staff Awards Ceremony, Summer Ball and Staff Quiz evening.
There is also a staff discount scheme operated by a range of local businesses, offering discounts on services and goods to all NHS staff. Discounts are also available on a range of Island facilities include swimming and sports facilities.
Research and Development There is a Research and Development Unit on site which is part of the University of Portsmouth Academic Research and Development Support Unit which was launched in 2000. It is an integral part of the School of Postgraduate Medicine. The fundamental role is to support health care professionals in both the conduct of R&D projects and in the implementation of research findings into clinical practice.
