Over 30,000 people suffer cardiac arrests outside of hospital in the UK every year. Did you know that in the event of an out of hospital cardiac arrest, a person’s chance of survival is less than 5%? If CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) is given and a defibrillator reaches them within the first 3 minutes then their chance of survival can go up to as much as 74%.

About one in eight women in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. There's a good chance of recovery if it's detected in its early stages. Breast screening aims to find breast cancers early. It uses an X-ray test called a mammogram that can spot cancers when they are too small to see or feel.

Funding awarded to Trust to improve emergency and urgent care services for patients

Emergency and Urgent Care Services at St. Mary’s Hospital, Newport, Isle of Wight are to be remodelled with money provided by the Department of Health.   The Department has announced that the Isle of Wight NHS Trust is among 19 hospitals across England who have been awarded a share of £13.34m   The £714,000 awarded to the Trust is to help support NHS England’s wider plans to improve A&E performance in England by 2018.

Ambulance staff past and present, with a collective record of over 600 years’ service to the NHS, were recognised in a ceremony at Lakeside Hotel, Wootton Bridge on Thursday 20th July 2017.  The Lord Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight Lord Lieutenant Maj Gen Martin White CB CBE JP, along with Isle of Wight NHS Trust Interim Chief Executive Officer Maggie Oldham, presented the awards.

Thousands raised by local fundraiser for Island Cancer Care

A local resident from Lake has raised a staggering £32,185 for St Mary’s Hospital Cancer Care service following a 16-month long fundraising campaign.  The money which exceeded all targets will now be able to fund a new ultrasound scanner and vein finder to help in the care of cancer patients across the Island.

With effect from 3rd July 2017 it will no longer be possible to see a GP at the Urgent Care Service — formerly known as the Beacon Centre —between 8am and 6.30pm on weekdays. On weekdays between 8am and 6.30pm people should make an appointment with their GP practice, and GP practices are putting measures in place to make it easier.

Isle of Wight NHS Trust has welcomed the latest ratings from the Care Quality Commission. The Trust’s NHS 111 service, part of the Island’s innovative integrated care hub, has been rated ‘Good’. The ‘walk-in’ element of the Urgent Care Services has been rated ‘requires improvement’.   The CQC inspected the services in March 2017.

A charity football match between Hampshire Constabulary and Isle of Wight NHS Trust is set to raise money for local charity, the Joe Ellis Trust.   The Trust is a children's registered charity, based on the Isle of Wight, which helps island children who have cancer and their families in their time of need. The Trust was set up in loving memory of Joe Ellis, who died on 30/6/14 at the tender age of just 13years, after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma cancer.

Staff from Isle of Wight NHS Trust are one of the finalists for this year’s Good Morning Britain Health Star Awards.   The Island’s ‘Pre-pip’ programme delivers high dose antibiotics in the community to patients who are diagnosed with the killer condition sepsis.  Sepsis is a rare but serious complication of an infection.   Without quick treatment, sepsis can lead to multiple organ failure and death.

Isle of Wight NHS Trust to recruit new Chief Executive

Karen Baker, Chief Executive of the Isle of Wight NHS Trust, is to stand down from her role today, 31 March 2017.  The Trust board have asked Executive Medical Director Dr Mark Pugh to step in as acting Chief Executive for a short period.   The Trust Board expect to confirm in April the appointment of an interim Chief Executive. He or she will be with the Trust for up to six months whilst the Trust board undertake the recruitment of a new permanent Chief Executive.

Event will raise funds for Children’s Mental Health Services

Lower Hyde Holiday Park, Shanklin will be the venue for a fun evening raising funds for the Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CCAMHS). Doors open at 7:00p.m. on Saturday 4th March 2017 and there will be range of entertainment including a Quiz, ‘Race Night’, Children’s Fun Time, Live Vocal Trio, a raffle and a disco to finish off the evening. The venue, which is being kindly provided by Parkdean Resorts, will have a fully licensed bar. It costs £5 for adults and children can attend for FREE!

Do you have any Crutches or other Walking Aids that need returning to the NHS?

Have you been issued with a set of crutches or any walking aids such as a Zimmer frame and not yet returned them? The Island’s Patient Council are backing a BBC One Show campaign and Island residents are being asked to search their homes for any crutches or any other items of NHS equipment that are no longer needed and return them to their local Health Centre on the 8th March 2017 from 10am. No questions will be asked, no details will be taken.
