High Tea with IoW Tours
IoW Tours shows support for NHS Staff
31 July 2018

With the 70th Birthday of the NHS approaching IoW Tours Managing Director Shirley Winn was keen to support staff at the hospital where, like many Islanders, she had been treated.   Shirley said: “I was really happy with my treatment and those who were in hospital with me said they were too. All too often we see the NHS being knocked in the media and I felt it was time to say thank you. I was really pleased when the Trust’s Equality Lead approached me and was very happy to sponsor their competition to identify staff and initiatives that were helping the Trust achieve its aim of being rated ‘good’ by 2020.”

Sam Greatrex said: “The idea was that we would run a competition which any member of staff could put forward another member of staff who had been particularly supportive of the ‘Getting to Good’ programme or had come up with a great initiative. We were overwhelmed with entries and the judging was very difficult.”

Shirley continues: “I joined a panel to choose the winners and we found it so difficult to choose that with the help of Warner Leisure we were able to offer 6 rooms for a five night break at Norton Grange Coastal Village to the winners. In addition I was pleased to be able to present the runners up with £20 vouchers at a High Tea organised by the Trust.”

On 5th July – the actual 70th Birthday of the NHS - teams across the whole Trust were encouraged to celebrate with a tea party – the Big 7Tea!   The High Tea was organised by Diversity & Equality Lead Sam Greatrex and Catering Manager Jo Sheppard. Sam continued: “We’re very grateful to Shirley Winn, managing director at IOW Tours for supporting the Trust. It is important that staff are recognised for the work that they do, sometimes under very difficult circumstances.”
