Newer drugs in this group are likely to be specialist initiated and have therefore been shown "Yellow"

4.8.1 Control of Epilepsy This section needs to be considered by IOW DAC

        CARBAMAZEPINE    For partial seizures and secondary generalised tonic-clonic seizures   
      CLOBAZAM      
      CLONAZEPAM      
      GABAPENTIN      
      LAMOTRIGINE   For primary generalised epilepsy (including absences and myoclonus), partial seizures, secondary generalised tonic-clonic seizures  
      LEVETIRACETAM (Yellow)       
      OXCARBAZEPINE (Yellow)       
      PHENOBARBITAL   Child Health and existing patients only  
      PHENYTOIN      
      PRIMIDONE   Existing patients only  
      SODIUM VALPROATE   For primary generalised epilepsy (including absences and myoclonus), partial seizures, secondary generalised tonic-clonic seizures  
      TOPIRAMATE (Yellow)      
      VIGABATRIN (Yellow)       
            Carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, and topiramate are hepatic enzyme inducing agents and will interact with many other drugs  
            Lamotrigine is useful for women of child bearing age because it does not interact with oral contraceptives, and has a low teratogenic risk as monotherapy  
            All antiepileptic drugs carry some risk of teratogenicity. Counsel patients

      LORAZEPAM   injection
      MIDAZOLAM (Yellow)   buccal liq - Unlicensed, Child Health only. See local guidelines
      PHENOBARBITAL   injection
      PHENYTOIN SODIUM   injection
      PYRIDOXINE   injection
