Supervision and Assessment

While on placement with us students can expect:

  • Support from a named and allocated Practice Assessor / Supervisor / Educator with constructive feedback at regular intervals.
  • A local induction in your clinical area within the first 24hrs.
  • A planned work/shift  pattern for the duration of the placement.
  • Supernumerary status throughout their placements that supports quality learning experiences.
  • A quality learning environment with a culture that encourages learning in practice.
  • Practice experiences with effective learning and a successful placement.
  • An audited clinical area to ensure a quality learning environment.
  • Support from the Clinical Education Team

Practice Supervisor Training

Provided via training tracker module. Module aims: To provide nurses, midwives and allied health professionals with: The values, knowledge and skills to provide supervision, support and to facilitate learning in a positive and professional learning environment. Skills to deliver safe and effective learning experiences that maintain patient safety and public protection.

Now available on ESR 000 470 Practice Supervisor Training (e-Learning). You require a workbook to complete this course, which can be collected from the education centre before getting started. For any questions please contact iownt.ClinicalEducationTeam@nhs.net 

Practice Assessor Training

Course Aims: To prepare attendees for practice assessor role. To build on skills developed in practice assessor role. To explore excellent learning environments. To create a culture of learning. 

You require a workbook to complete this course, which can be collected from the education centre before getting started.

This is a whole-day course that needs to be booked via ESR. The course is called 470 Practice Assessor Training - Virtual (MS Teams), and is run once per month.

Supporting Learning in Practice

Supporting Learners in Practice Toolkit

The aim of this resource is to support Practice Assessors and Supervisors to ensure placements are learner focused. Using a coaching model with learners encourages them to take responsibility for their own learning.
