ATLS (Advanced Trauma and Life Support)


The Isle of Wight ATLS course at the Medical Education Centre acts as agent for the Royal College of Surgeons of England in the provision of their Advanced Trauma and Life Support provider course.

ATLS is a three-day course with the aim to teach a simple systematic approach to the management of trauma patients through interactive tutorials, skills teaching and simulated patient management scenarios.


 AIM (Acute Illness Management)

The Acute Illness Management (AIM) Course is a one-day interprofessional course developed to standardise the clinical approach to the recognition, assessment and management of acutely ill adult patients.

Advanced Clinical Skills Course

This is an annual one day course for junior doctors, led by Dr Oliver Cramer with Dr Laszlo Ordog and Dr Andrew Woolley

The course includes the following areas

    • - Access for fluid therapy
    • - NIV
    • - Chest Drains
    • - State of the art Fluid Management



Essential Surgical Skills Course

The Essential Surgical Skills is a two day evening course led by Mr Mike Nelson, Consultant Surgeon. The aim of the course is to introduce safe and practical surgical techniques to Foundation Year Doctors.

The course covers:

  • Overview of sutures and suture material
  • Suture material and suturing techniques
  • Basic knot tying
  • Catherisation techniques, tips and practice
  • Fracture management
  • Excision of lumps and skin lesions
  • Basic laparoscopic skills







International Medical Graduates (IMG) Course

The International Medical Graduates Course (IMG) is a three day course that runs on an annual basis, usually in July.  

The course is aimed at non UK graduates, who are new to working in the NHS. Topics covered include:

  • Basic Ethos of the NHS
  • Interview Skills
  • CVs & Applications
  • Communication & Culture
