Ferry Travel

There are 3 main ferry companies offering travel to the Island. Please see links below

Public Transport

There is a good public transport network on the Island. The bus service is regular across the Island and offers student discount on production of your University ID badge.


We have accommodation available on site at St. Marys Hospital. Please see link below for more information.

Car parking arrangements

You can apply for a student rate parking permit at a discounted rate.  Application forms are available either when booking accommodation or by contacting

Preparing for Placement

Organisation expectations and responsibilities

We expect you to be prepared for your placement.  We have a range of practice area profiles available to enable you to find out more about the service you will be joining and the learning opportunities available to you. The profiles currently available can be found at

Please contact your placement area directly to discuss any placement requirements such as recommended reading, relevant policies, protocols or guidelines and available learning opportunities.

Learner Induction

As a student you will be expected to attend both an organisation induction and a local induction of your placement area.  You will be emailed information directly about when and where the induction will take place.  This will provide you with the opportunity to meet other learners and Trust staff from the clinical education team who will be involved in supporting you whilst on placement.

Whilst on placement you will have access to our Library. During your induction you will have the opportunity to join. Please visit the following link to find out more about the library resources available to you.

IT and e-learning

Whilst on placement you will be given access to our IT and comprehensive e-learning systems.  Details of how to do this  will be provided during your learner induction.
