10 things every manager should do…

  1. Treat all your staff fairly, equitably and without discrimination - build a culture where people know they can trust you.
  2. Conduct an appraisal for each staff member annually – and complete the on-line training needs analysis as soon as it’s done.
  3. Know what training is mandatory for your staff and ensure they keep it up to date.
  4. Tackle your concerns promptly – deal with conflict, behaviour issues, attitude problems – before they become bigger!
  5. Always complete a return to work form when staff return from sick leave.
  6. Manage staff sickness – communicate with your staff in a supportive way.
  7. Understand any risks in your work area and manage them accordingly.
  8. Always ensure any incidents are reported using the Datix system.
  9. Follow the procurement process when purchasing anything – contact Finance for advice.
  10. Manage your budget – plan and prepare.
