Book & Journal Collections

***The Education Centre is reopening, but most of our own print book collection is still in storage. We have a small selection to borrow from and are continuing to supply books to our users via inter-library loans.  Please email your requests to iownt.library@nhs.net. ***

Journals

NHS Core content plus electronic journals bought locally. Use to check for full-text when you already know which articles you need. Please access journals via Journals A-Z using your OpenAthens credentials to log in.

Accessing the full text of journal articles can be complicated and frustrating - Library staff can save you time - for help finding references and sourcing journal articles please email iownt.library@nhs.net

Multi-professional Books

Covering a wide range of subjects in Medicine, Clinical Practice, Management, Research, Academic Study, and other textbooks, there are about 4000 titles in this collection. *** The majority of these books are currently in storage.  However, we can supply some texts directly and most can be ordered through our health library network (SWIMS) ***

The SWIMS catalogue can be searched for material held in the Oliveira Library, as well as in other healthcare libraries in the south and west. (Select location i01 to filter for just our local holdings).  To request books from our own collection or elsewhere please email iownt.library@nhs.net

e-Books

Oliveira Library collection: We have a growing collection of e-books available - to search for these go to the Library CatalogueUse the Advanced Search option to filter for Material Type: Electronic books + Location: Isle of Wight (no title needed).   


Royal Marsden Manual: 10th edition now available for Isle of Wight staff.

If you are on a Trust computer you can access the site from Web Based Systems or from http://www.rmmonline.co.uk which should automatically log you in to the resource, but some Trust computers may require you to use your OpenAthens account. For users on non-Trust machines sign in with your OpenAthens account from the same link.

Oxford University Press: Courtesy of Health Education England, NHS staff and students on placement in England have access to over 130 Oxford University Press medical and healthcare books online.  

How to access

1. Sign in to NHS OpenAthens

2. If you don’t have an OpenAthens account, please register for one

3. Once signed in, you will be taken directly to the books you have access to

The Well-Being Collection includes our Light reading and Reading Well collections as well as Self-help books, Short reads and a small Spiritual section. ***Please contact the library to request these items***
