All hard copy - books, paper issues of journals, and audio-visual material

There are about 5000 titles in the library.  Through our health library network (SWIMS) we have access to many more.  Please ask us if you cannot find what you need.  The SWIMS catalogue can be searched for material held in the Oliveira Library, as well as in other healthcare libraries in the south and west. You can also use the new Oliveira Discovery system to search.  (Select Oliveira under 'Library Location') to filter to books we hold.

We regularly update our stock with the latest new books.  Please let us know if you would like to recommend a book to us.  Click here for Book Reviews written by library users and library staff.

Most of our journals are now available electronically.  We retain a few print journals for browsing, and some back copies of journals unavailable online. To view electronic journals usually requires anOpenAthens log-on. Eligible staff can apply for a password via theOpenAthens registration page.

Audiovisual material

This includes a series of DVDs produced byMediVision on clinical topics.  There are also DVDs on management topics, and many books include a/v material. Click here for the Library DVD holdings.  Self-help books from the national "Books on Prescription" collection: No prescription needed, however.  These titles explain the use ofCBT to alleviate mild-to-moderate anxiety, depression, poor sleep etc. No 'cure' promised, and no book can be perfect for everyone, but worth a look.  The collection is at the back of the library.

Light reading

We hold a small collection of general fiction and non-fiction for leisure reading.

Reading Well

We hold some books from the Reading Agency recommended 'Books on Prescription' and 'Mood boosting books'.  These are available for staff to borrow.  If you would like to recommend them to your patients please direct them to their local public library.  You can issue them with a book 'prescription'.
