We offer personal training sessions for small groups or one-to-one. Contact the Library for further information and to book.  

Study Support

Library induction for new staff: Introducing the library and basics of library use.  Includes guide to e-resources available for Oliveira Library users. 30 minutes to 1 hour, suitable for 1:1 or group training.


Study skills: Overview of information seeking and evaluation, planning and writing assignments and assessing your own work.


Keeping Up to Date: Introducing KnowledgeShare, our Evidence Update system and Evidence alerts, bulletins and Table of Contents (TOCs) alerts.  Library staff can help you set up alerts or a news aggregator page to include only the journals and web pages you want to monitor regularly.

Literature Skills Training

Looking for evidence: Overview of reliable and quick online sources of evidence useful at the point of care for decision support. Overview of reliable evidence sources – Evidence search, Trip, BMJ Best Practice, UpToDate, Marsden online


Evidence - Advanced Search: In-depth session focused on trainee's own question, using HDAS (Healthcare Databases Advanced Search) to search for journal articles. Takes 1 to 2 hours depending on the search topic. Suitable for 1:1 or 1:2 training. (OpenAthens Registration required)


Introduction to critical appraisal: Short workshop looking at the principles of critical appraisal, useful tools and resources, and including shared appraisal of a research article. About 90 minutes to 2 hours, suitable for 1:1 or small group.  ***Please also see our page of Critical Appraisal learning resources***
