The Patient Partnership was formed in January 2015. The group meets once every two months and is chaired by the Lead Cancer Nurse.
The purpose of the group is to provide a forum for consultation on service delivery, issues of common concern and interest arising from service users and healthcare professionals for Isle of Wight cancer services.
All local support groups for current and former cancer patients are invited to send representatives and a core membership of regular attendees has developed. Representatives from voluntary organisations including Wessex Cancer Trust and Macmillan are also invited to attend. Healthcare professionals attend on an ad hoc basis to provide information regarding their services and gain vital feedback from service users.
Members of the group act as representatives at the Trust’s Cancer Forum meeting and the Cancer Local Implementation Team meeting with the commissioner. Patient representatives are also provided from the group at the internal validation sessions which form part of the annual national peer review process for local cancer services.
Meetings are lively and informative and members’ views and opinions are respected in a friendly and supportive environment.
