Charitable Funds and Fundraising

Charitable Funds in the Trust originate from a variety of different sources including donations, legacies and through fundraising and may be for a specific or general purpose. All charitable funds are ‘Funds Held On Trust’ (FHOT) with the Charity Commission. There are approximately 50 funds held by the IOW NHS Trust Charitable Fund (registered number 1049606). An overview of the Charitable Fund can be found on the Charity Commission’s website.

All income and expenditure is administered and applied appropriately in accordance with the donors’ wishes and in a way which makes the maximum contribution to enhancing both patient and staff welfare and amenities.  See below to download copies of the Corporate Trustees Annual Report and Accounts for previous years.  You can also download a leaflet about donating money or leaving a legacy to the Island's NHS.

During the year, the Charitable Funds Committee has worked in partnership with the Friends of St. Mary’s in order to maximise expertise and fund raising to the benefit of both patients and staff alike. In 2013/14 around £288,000 was received into Charitable Funds, including legacies of £144,000 and funds amounting to £234,000 were distributed for patient and staff welfare and amenities, staff training and education.

Alongside the Trust's Charitable Funds, campaigns to raise funds for specific causes are organised and run by staff, patients and voluntary organisations.

As well as receiving financial donations, the NHS Trust also promotes organ and blood donations to support in delivering care to patients. You can find out more about these schemes by clicking on the Organ Donation and Blood Donation sections.

On behalf of the staff and patients who have benefited from improved services due to donations and legacies, the Trust Board as Corporate Trustee would like to thank all patients, relatives and staff who have made charitable donations.
