Items to Loved Ones

Patient’s property and bringing personal items into Hospital

We fully appreciate how important personal items are for our patients and particularly in the current situation when they are not able to have visitors.

We have developed an essential items drop off service that is run by our staff with the support of our volunteers;  this team will be the hub for receiving and passing on items to patients. This service allows relatives to drop off essential items without entering the hospital.

The drop off point for items is located in just inside the Main Entrance, there will be a table on the right before the entrance to the Emergency Department. Our drop off point is available Monday to Sunday from 8am to 4.30pm.

 We ask that:

  • You keep any items brought in, to an absolute minimum as everything needs to be cleaned regularly.
  • Any items brought in are small and can be kept safely in or on a bedside locker. However, we would like your loved one to be provided with enough clothes for 2 days, this will enable them to get up and dressed during the day, a pair of flat enclosed shoes or slippers would also be helpful and assist in maintaining their safety.
  • Please note that we cannot accept perishable items.
  • Valuable items should not be brought in; we cannot take responsibility for items retained by patients at the bedside and have limited ability to secure valuables.
  • Any messages or drawings on paper are placed in a plastic pocket which can be wiped over.
  • Items are placed in a plastic bag clearly labelled with the patient name, date of birth and the ward in which they are being cared for.

Our team will also support with ensuring that any items of clothing requiring laundering are returned to, and are happy to liaise with the wards to facilitate this on your behalf.

Our team will do everything possible to accommodate your availability. On meeting you we will have a clear plastic bag that we ask you to put your bag into and we will then take it to the ward for you.

If you have any questions regarding this service, please contact: 01983 822099 extension 4600 – this will take you through to the main reception desk where a member of the team will be happy to take your call.
