All is ‘Good’ for Community Health Services for Children and Young People
06 September 2019

The Trust’s Community Health Services for Children and Young People has been rated ‘Good’.

This follows a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) where the service was rated ‘Good’ across all five domains for being Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well Led.

The 0 – 19 public health service is delivered across the island and comprises a multi-skilled team of health visitors, school nurses, community nursery nurses, children’s therapists, sexual health practitioners and the children’s safeguarding and looked after children team.

During the inspection the CQC observed consultations between children, parents and staff. Patient records were reviewed and various locations inspected to check they were child-friendly environments.

The Trust provided services in a way that met the needs of children, young people and their families.

The CQC noted that all those responsible delivered good quality care by working together as a team. They supported each other and communicated effectively with other agencies.  Staff felt respected, supported and valued by senior members of the team.

Staff provided children, young people and their families’ practical support and advice to lead healthier lives. They were treated with compassion and respect and took into account their individual needs. They monitored the effectiveness of their care and treatment regularly to make improvements and provide the best outcome for children and young people.

Andrea Bevan, Clinical Lead 0-19 said “We are delighted to be awarded ‘Good’ across all CQC domains.

“It has been a challenging journey but we remained driven to achieve a gold standard service for our children and families.

“We achieved this excellent result by ensuring that our daily practice is underpinned by the Trust’s Values; Compassionate, Team working, Improving and Valued.”
