Caleb Smith donationEL
Generous donation to Childrens Ward staff
23 January 2018

The Children’s Ward at St. Mary’s Hospital has received a generous donation of nearly £1600 in memory of Caleb Toby Smith who sadly passed away in March 2017. Friends of Caleb’s parents, Chloe and Geoff, wanted to do something to help and decided to fundraise for the ward with their colleagues from Performance in People.

On Saturday 23rd September 2017 Geoff, who also works at the Trust as a Children’s Nurse, together with a team of 30 people from Performance in People (PiP), completed the gruelling 12 mile Tough Mudder assault course in Crawley. Lauren and Abi, from Performance in People, said: “We wanted to raise £500 for the Children’s Ward at St Mary's Hospital who played a massive role in supporting both Caleb and his family. Research Analyst Scott Lawson promised to complete the course in a 10kg weighted vest if we hit our target. And we are ecstatic to say that we tripled our target with our current fundraising total at nearly £1,600! This money will make an enormous difference in helping to improve the environment for patients and staff.

Matt Powell, Children’s Ward Matron received the cheque last Friday. Matt said: “We are thrilled to receive this donation and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped to raise this fantastic sum of money. Funds donated to the ward are usually spent on facilities for the children but we are really excited to be able to use this money to give our staff room a much needed makeover and make it a space for staff to relax and enjoy when on their breaks.”
