Improved Partnership working for the benefit of People living with Dementia
30 April 2019

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust has teamed up with Alzheimer’s Café IOW to provide a joint venture on 10th May as part of the International Nurses Day celebrations.

People with Dementia and their families are invited to meet with Nurses from the Trust in the Conference Room at St Mary’s Hospital from 2pm – 4pm, where they will be treated to afternoon tea, and get the chance to meet each other on an informal basis.  This is an excellent opportunity for all involved to interact in a less formal setting.

Maggie Bennett Alzheimer Café CEO said “We are delighted to have been invited to join with the Nurses at St Mary’s to celebrate their special day. The café has been opening monthly since December and we hope many more people will be able to join us to learn more about dementia in a safe sociable setting.

Alice Webster, Director of Nursing added “International Nurses Day is a day for us to celebrate the difference nurses can make to our patients, their families and their friends. Whilst we consider what impact we can make this year we are delighted to be able to celebrate the day with members of the Alzheimer’s Café. This is held here within the Hospital on a monthly basis. We have a number of inpatients with dementia who can benefit from leaving the ward setting to socialise with fellow patients over a cup of tea but we are also pleased that through the Alzheimer’s Café they are able to provide family members and carers advice and guidance should they need it.
