The Trust Celebrates its Volunteers
07 June 2019

Volunteer’s week is a time to celebrate and say thank you for the contribution and time volunteers give and the IOW NHS Trust has an incredible 274 volunteers to celebrate it with.

The Trust volunteers are a vital part of the hospital teams, from giving a welcoming smile, to assisting on the hospital wards offering hot drinks to patients, helping with the completion of menu cards, undertaking errands and talking to patients, the dedicated team of volunteers who work within the Trust services provide invaluable support in helping to deliver the best possible care. By doing that little extra, volunteers can brighten a patient's day and improve their experience of visiting the hospital.

The Trust Volunteers give their invaluable time and support to make a difference within a range of different roles, such as:

  • Ward helpers
  • Community First Responders
  • Befrienders
  • Patient Experience Volunteers
  • Gardeners
  • Administration support
  • Peer support
  • Meet and Greet
  • Chaplaincy
  • Dementia Friends
  • Members of the Patient Council

Cathy Armstrong, Volunteer coordinator said “We are very fortunate to have so many volunteers within the Trust supporting our clinical and non-clinical staff. They really do make such a difference and we celebrated volunteer’s week by holding a party for them on Monday afternoon so I and colleagues could thank them for their commitment and support. We cannot thank them all enough, each and every one of them is a vital asset to our services”

Maggie Oldham, Chief Executive said “I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all our volunteers, whatever their role and however much time they are able to spare, I know I can say on behalf of all our staff that we really do appreciate their support and we couldn’t do without them”
