The Trust thanks its volunteers
01 June 2020

Volunteers’ Week is a time to celebrate and say thank you for the contribution and time volunteers give to the IOW NHS Trust.

The IOW NHS Trust has an incredible 300+ volunteers and this year due to the coronavirus pandemic it has highlighted even more the work and sacrifices they are prepared to make to help the staff and the patients.

The volunteers have been extremely flexible in their approach to the coronavirus. Many of them have stepped up to carry out new roles that have been created as a result of the pandemic. They have completed additional training and some roles have required wearing PPE.. Many have extended their availability and they have all adapted really well to the changing demands during this crisis.

Some of the roles volunteers are involved in:

  • Ward Runner (New role)
  • Family Liaison (New role)
  • Tech Advisor (New role)
  • Patient Care (New role)
  • PPE Packer (New role)
  • Catering (New role)
  • Ward helper and befriender
  • Reception
  • Administrator
  • Meet and Greet helper
  • Community First Responder
  • Chaplaincy
  • Patient Council Member
  • Hospital Driver

Alice Webster, Director of Nursing said “We are very fortunate to have so many volunteers within the Trust supporting our staff and patients. They really do make such a difference.

Whilst we are unable to celebrate Volunteers’ Week in the way we had hoped we all look forward to celebrating together when it is safe to do so.

We want them to know how much they are appreciated and we cannot thank them enough for their commitment and support.

Each and every one of them is a vital asset to our services”
