Trust Board backs Island-wide flu campaign called Protect Together
11 October 2019

NHS leaders have backed an ambitious campaign to increase vaccination rates across the NHS.

Members of the Board of Isle of Wight NHS Trust rolled up their sleeves on Thursday and were vaccinated in a bid to raise awareness of the importance of tackling flu.

Alice Webster, Nursing Director, said: “We all share a responsibility to protect ourselves, our families and our community. This year we have joined together with the local Council and NHS Clinical Commissioning Group to protect together and we are working really hard to make sure that NHS staff have their jabs. I would like to reach out to the wider population to encourage them to do the same.”

Maggie Oldham, Chief Executive: “Flu is unpredictable and can be incredibly serious, particularly for our most vulnerable patients so it is essential that people take steps to protect themselves during the winter months.

“Every year we offer the flu vaccine to all NHS staff to help protect them from contracting the virus and passing it to others. Healthcare workers are more likely to be exposed to the influenza virus so it is extremely important that we all protect together and have the flu vaccination every year.”

Anyone eligible for a free flu vaccine should contact their GP, pharmacist or midwife to get the flu jab.
