Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

For most parents the arrival of a new son or daughter is a time of great happiness and excitement. At St. Mary's there are around 1250 births a year. Although the majority are born well, a number of them will experience some difficulties which will require them to be admitted to the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The NICU operates an open visiting policy for parents, grandparents and siblings, although it is closed to visitors during quiet times, which are from 7:30am to 8:30am and 8:15pm to 9:15pm. We have 11 cots in total, 3 single nurseries and 2 four cot nurseries. Each cot space has its own lighting, oxygen and power supplies, and can be curtained off to provide privacy for the baby and their parents when required. A support group coffee morning is held on the unit in the day room every Monday between 11am and 1pm.
