Sandown Clinic
The doctors and staff at Sandown Health Centre on the Isle of Wight are proud to offer the highest standard of patient-centred healthcare.
We run many clinics for the management of chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes and offer a wide variety of other medical services including antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery, childhood vaccinations and well-person check-ups.
Primary Care Practitioners
Our Primary Care Practitioners have undergone extensive training that includes the ability to prescribe independently. Patients can request to see the Primary Care Practitioner in preference to a GP and the practice encourages minor illnesses such as
- Sore throats/tonsillitis/sinusitis /earache/ear infection/eye problems/contraception/urine infection/vaginal problems (thrush, discharge)/digestive problems (constipation, indigestion/heartburn)/skin problems (eczema, impetigo acne) head lice/rashes/ bites/stings and wounds/cold sores/coughs/chest infection/recent minor injuries or lower back pain to see the Primary Care Practitioner.
Minor Surgery
Some minor operations can be performed at the surgery by the doctor. Please ask your doctor.
Flu Vaccinations
Clinics are held in October each year. These injections provide valuable protection against flu in “at risk” patients. Please ask at reception for details of clinics.
Stop Smoking
If you are keen to stop smoking we hold clinics run by fully trained healthcare Assistants.
Diabetes
Clinics run each week by specialist nurses.
Smear Clinic
Smear tests are recommended routinely at three yearly intervals for all women aged 25-50 and then five yearly from 50-65.
Asthma & COPD
Clinics run each week by specialist nurses.
Phlebotomy
The service for taking blood is run by our healthcare Assistants. Appointments can be made at reception.
Contraceptive Services/Family Planning
Including coil and implant fittings.
Young Person Sexual Health Clinic (for 13-24 year olds)
We run clinic every Thursday between 4.30pm - 6.30pm. Appointments available or just drop by for advice on all aspects of sexual health including contraception/condoms/chlamydia testing/morning after pill/pregnancy testing/coil fitting/implant fitting/STI testing. Emergency appointments available 9am-5pm each weekday.
Chlamydia Testing
Recommended every 3 months for all sexually active 13-24 year olds or with each new partner.
Minor Injury
Assessment and treatment of minor injuries is available from the Practice Nurse.
Childhood Immunisations
Weekly clinics held by the Pratice Nurses. Please ask at reception for an up to date list of recommended immunisations.
Health-checks
Annual checks advised for all patients over the age of 45 who do not regularly see their GP.
Hypertension Clinic
Regular monitoring of patients with high blood pressure.Patients aged 75 & over - if you are aged 75 and over and have not been seen for twelve months you may request a consultation. We will provide such a consultation and examinations that appear to be appropriate at the time.
Six Week Baby Checks
All mothers will be asked by the midwife/Health visitor to make an appointment for themselves and baby to have a health check with their GP.
Patients aged between 16 and 75
Patients who have not been seen for 3 years, may request a consultation. We will provide such a consulation and any examinations that may be appropriate at the time.
Travel Advice
Advice on foreign travel and travel injections are available, providing we have sufficient notice. Some courses of tavel injections can take several months to complete. Please contact the surgery in plenty of time before you travel or go on holiday in order to complete the travel schedule.
