The Rheumatology Department is based in a dedicated clinic suite in Laidlaw Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Unit. The nurses and doctors work as part of a multidisciplinary team, supported by colleagues in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, orthotics and podiatry. The Rheumatology department offers a comprehensive range of treatments and also coordinates the island bone densitometry (DEXA) scanning service. We also work closely with GP colleagues to monitor treatments in stable patients via agreed shared-care protocols.
We aim to see all new outpatients within 12 weeks from referral, with a plan to see patients with new inflammatory arthritis within 3 weeks. The department has strong links with University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (for paediatric rheumatology referrals and for the management of complex diseases) and Queen Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust Portsmouth (for the management of renal (kidney) disease).
We offer diagnostic and treatment services in the following clinical settings:
Consultants and Nursing Staff
Professor Mark Pugh, Consultant Rheumatologist
Dr. Stuart Linton, Consultant Rheumatologist
Miss Mary Millard, Rheumatology Team Leader (Telephone: 01983 822099 Ext: 4909)
