COVID-19 and FLU Vaccinations

Protection from vaccines can decline over time. Booster doses for influenza (flu) and COVID-19 are offered to help maintain strong protection against becoming seriously unwell or needing hospital care if you catch these viruses. Both flu and COVID-19 can cause serious or life-threatening illness.

These vaccines are offered to people at higher risk of complications, helping to ensure they remain well protected. The COVID-19 booster is available seasonally, while the flu vaccine is offered each autumn.

If you are eligible for the Autumn/Winter COVID & flu vaccinations, the NHS will contact you when it's your turn to be vaccinated.

Who is eligible for a Flu vaccine

The following people will be offered a flu vaccine this autumn:

  • those aged 65 years and over
  • those aged 18 years to under 65 years in clinical risk groups (as define by the Green Book, Influenza chapter 19)
  • those in long-stay residential care homes
  • carers in receipt of carer's allowance, or those who are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person
  • close contacts of immunocompromised individuals
  • all frontline healthcare & social care workers, including both clinical and non-clinical staff who have contact with patients

Who is eligible for a seasonal COVID-19 vaccine

The following people will be offered a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine this autumn:

  • residents in a care home for older adults
  • all adults aged 75 years and over
  • persons aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed, as define in tables 3 and 4 of the COVID-19 chapter of the Green Book

For individuals in the above groups who have had or not had any previous doses, it is recommended that they receive a single dose of COVID-18 vaccine during the campaign period.
