Our Emergency Department (ED), sometimes known as Accident and Emergency (A&E), assesses and treats people with serious, or life-threatening injuries or illness.

The department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How can I get urgent medical help?

For urgent medical help, please use NHS 111 online or call NHS 111.

This applies if:

  • you need medical help fast, but it’s not a 999 emergency

  • you think you need to go to ED or another NHS urgent care service

A trained NHS adviser or healthcare professional will help you right away. If you need urgent care, they may refer you to the Urgent Treatment Centre.

For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, call 999.
