Following a successful £6.2m bid to extend the Community Diagnostic Centre(CDC) at St Mary’s Hospital, we are delighted to announce the start of building work to expand the CDC and create a dedicated breast care facility. Islanders with suspected breast cancer or symptoms of breast abnormalities will benefit from having their diagnostic and consultant care in one location this autumn.
The new state-of-the-art centre will deliver comprehensive breast care for both symptomatic and screening patients. Designed with feedback from staff and patients, the centre will contribute to delivering one of the Trusts key objectives “of providing patient centred care” by offering a more co-ordinated and cohesive experience for patients and their loved ones.
The building work to re-locate the service from the south of the hospital to the North Hospital’s CDC, that will open in November 2026, will make a make a meaningful difference to people’s experience of care when attending an appointment for suspected breast cancer.
The expansion of the Community Diagnostic Centre forms part of the Trust’s wider commitment to improving access to diagnostic services for islanders.
