We are proud to announce that our Endoscopy Unit has been awarded full accreditation from the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG), a nationally recognised mark of excellence for endoscopy services across the UK.

JAG accreditation is granted only to services that demonstrate the very highest standards of patient care, safety, and clinical excellence. It reflects a clear commitment to continuous improvement and best practice, as well as delivering tangible benefits such as enhanced staff morale and improved patient outcomes.

During the assessment, inspectors praised St Mary’s Hospital Endoscopy Unit for its strong leadership, effective teamwork, and clear focus on patient-centred care. The service was recognised for:

  • Excellent patient flow and consistent respect for privacy and dignity throughout the patient journey.
  • The development of safe and robust working practices and a supportive environment where staff are encouraged to grow and achieve their potential.
  • An innovative review process, where endoscopy nurses assess inpatients prior to procedures ensuring thorough clinical observation, informed consent, and patient education. This has significantly reduced same-day cancellations and improved patient experience.

The inspectors also noted the well-presented environment, which provides a seamless and dignified pathway for patients.

We are incredibly proud of this accreditation, which reflects the expertise, dedication, and commitment of our staff to providing a safe, compassionate, and patient-centred service."
