From Monday 9 March 2026, the Day Surgery Unit (DSU) car park will be closed to vehicles. Pedestrian and wheelchair access will remain available.

The closure is necessary to allow construction work to begin on a new elective surgical ward, which will be built next to Mottistone and Respiratory. Due to the location and scale of the work, parking in this area must be suspended to ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and staff.

What this means for patients and visitors

  • The DSU car park including drop-off will not be available until later in the autumn.
  • 12 disabled parking bays currently located in this car park will be relocated to the main and north car parks to maintain disabled parking provision.
  • Alternative parking will be available at the main or north hospital car parks.

We understand that this will cause some inconvenience, particularly for patients who would usually park in this area. Support from our volunteer and portering teams will be available from either the main or north entrances to help patients reach their appointments if needed.

While this is a temporary disruption, it is an important step forward. Once complete, the new eight-bed elective surgical ward will increase our capacity and support improvements to patient care.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while these works take place.
